Welcome to Year 6!

The Year 6 team (led by Miss Mullaly and Mr Dack) are delighted to be part of your child's learning experience as they enter Year 6 and move towards the end of their time with us at Oldfield Park Junior School. We are here to support your children and you as parents in any way possible. Term Three - Citizens of the World

What does it mean to be part of a community? How do decisions concerning people’s rights and freedoms get made? What does it mean to be equal and to have equality? What is a democracy?

Over the term, Year 6 will be establishing a new colony on a distant planet. Wanting to avoid the mistakes of the past, the children will set up a democratic government and establish new laws in order to help their new society thrive.

Through the lens of history, the children will learn about the democratic process, the importance of rights and the responsibilities that go along with them. Can they create the perfect society?

Term 3 Spellings:

Find below the spellings for this term. As part of the children's homework, they will be required to learn as many of the spellings as they can. The left hand column contains common high-frequency spellings from prior year groups. The right hand column contains Year 5 and 6 spellings. There will be a spelling "quiz" ever Friday featuring six words from each column. If your child struggles with spellings, help them to concentrate on the words in the left column - we would like everyone to score at least 6 every week.

Spelling scores can help support our judgements regarding and assessing the children's writing at the end of the school year.

Term Two - Who Were The Vikings (part.2)

Continuing our historical investigation into the Vikings and their impact on the British Isles, we take a closer look at the collapse of the Viking Empire and the Battle of Hastings in 1066. There will also be the world premiere of the children's documentary - "Who Were The Vikings?"

Who Were the Vikings! The Premiere!

We had an amazing afternoon at the premiere of the children's movie - popcorn was eaten, photos were taken and Oscars were given! The children should be exceptionally proud of what they've achieved; the documentary was almost entirely put together by them and there's certainly a lot of talent on display here. If you haven't seen it yet, follow the link below and enjoy. We've also uploaded some photos from the event and I'm sure you'll agree, the children look amazing!

Term One - Who Were The Vikings?

Join us as we investigate the Viking civilisation. Who were they? Where did they come from? What impact did they have on the British Isles and the rest of Europe? Over the next few terms we will be deepening our understanding of these fascinating people - were they really as bad as they were made out to be?
